Weird Decibels formed 25 years ago and over this time we have recorded many albums, mostly full on rock with Stewart McCairney’s searing solos circling Paul Henry Smith’s lively vocals. This has all been held together with Greg McSorley imaginative bass and Derrek Menmuir’s inventive drumming.
We have always lived for the DIY ethic, struggling to fit our albums into multitrackers and taking on the world with our tunes. We do it for the love of our music. However, as Paul reached 40, he was handed an envelope from his friends and family. In it was a voucher for studio time. He phoned the nearest studio, Homegrown recordings Larbert and asked Andy Taylor if he could record 15 tracks live in just a day. He agreed and after a Grand Day Out we had a beautifully stripped back acoustic album of our favourite songs.
After we finished in the studio, we headed to the Station hotel, a busy pub just next to Larbert train station. Our friend Kevin Byrne was there to take photographs and beautifully captured a day that will be held with us forever.
